2011 National Film Challenge

About a week ago we joined the National Film Challenge! We would have three days to write, produce, shoot, and edit a short film. We had no idea what we were getting into.

We counted down the days like all the other teams with anticipation and excitement! We had everything we could prepare beforehand ready by the first day of the contest, Oct 21, 2011. When 7pm rolled around on Oct 21, 2011 we entered the team area on the website for the National Film Challenge and got our topic, line, prop, and character. With the parameters in mind we began spitballin ideas of possible scripts!

After 4 hours we had a finalized idea. It was a great idea, but it had the possibility to run too long. So we had reservations from the beginning about the length. We decided to sleep on it and start shooting Saturday afternoon because our actor couldn't be there till then. Which added more tension on the shoot.

Saturday began and we finally met by 4 in the afternoon to start shooting the film. We started off strong and shot most of the film by the end of the night. We had one of us editing as footage was shot and had everything we shot by the end of the night in a rough timeline ready for edit the next day. We finished half the film by the end of the nights shooting.

Sunday began with sound effects and ADR recording over a friends house. We recorded as much as we could until our actor was free at around 3pm. We shot the rest of the film and had our editor going as we finished the last shots. After the film was shot we got some more ADR and sound effects from the actor.

When all was quite again, all that remained was the editing and sound crews. We edited long into the night and when the last of us finally went delirious we finished up the final film. We played through it many times then went to bed.

Monday morning we woke up and found we were all late to our day jobs. When we got back home we exported the film and got the final papers together. We set out to the Post Office and mailed the final product out!! Hope all goes well.
